With isolation restrictions easing and working from home coming to an end, many people will soon be returning to the office, which may be worrying, especially when it comes to preparing lunch and snacks.
While working from home may have improved some peoples eating habits, the return to the office provides a massive increase of temptation with unlimited food court options and lunchroom baked good that many just can't say no to.
Australian Bananas along with, Nutritionist Susie Burrell, want to help Australians transition back to working (and snacking) in the office by giving her expert advice on how to best meal prep for your return to normality, and how to reinforce healthy eating habits.
Susie believes that meal prep is the number one way to control and change you nutrition intake on a daily basis.
"Meal prep utilises fresh food and home cooked meals, making a healthier and far less expensive option then purchasing food at lunchtime," said Susie.
"A packed lunch is an easy, cost effective way to keep your nutrition on track. You need a couple of snacks throughout a day to keep your energy up so take your own natural snacks to work.
"A banana is a perfect example, it comes in it's own natural wrapper and is very healthy for you while still providing that sweetness so many of us crave."
Susie pointed out that utilising leftovers is a cost efficient and easy way to meal prep.
"Leftovers are easy to reheat, you can mix a few things together and it's right there ready for you to go instead of having to spend more time making something different," she said.
"Pack your food the night before so it is ready to go and leave yourself a note so you don't forget it before you head to the office.
"Delicious leftovers will help keep you full and satisfied all afternoon, making it easier to skip those afternoon snack temptations."
Susie recommended foods like chicken pie, cottage pie with beef mince, spaghetti bolognese, lasagna or soups are great options.
"Use cuts of meat like lean mince or some leftover meat or vegetables that you have," she said. "People like to do quick one-pot meals.
"Soups are a great option this time of year. You can make a big pot of it, portion it out and store it easily."
When it comes to the afternoon craving of something sweet Susie recommends some home cooked banana bread or fruit muffins.
"Make your own quick, delicious, and healthy snacks in order to avoid those lunchroom sweet treats," she said
"They're easy to make and they can last you for the week as snacks. They'll have less sugar and fresher fruit then anything you can buy. Doing this will save so much money.
"Choosing fruits that are in season is the best way to eat sweet and healthy snacks. This time of year bananas and apples are in season and great choices as snacks."
