Alana Schroder of South Windsor, her daughter Charlotte (9) and friend Mia Rose (9) were among the first people to patronise the Richmond Regent cinema when it reopened to the public on Thursday, July 9.
The iconic twin cinema on Windsor Street had been closed for three-and-a-half months during the coronavirus pandemic, and following NSW Government advice was able to reopen during the first week of the school holidays.
Alana, Charlotte and Mia Rose saw the 10am screening of The Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs, an animated fantasy film based on the German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm.
"It was very good, and really funny," said Mia Rose.
Alana said her family are regulars at the local cinema, and come here every holidays. She also comes to watch films during the week when the kids are at school.
"We came as soon as the cinema reopened. We like to support local as much as possible. I wanted to go here instead of the big cinemas," Alana said.
Six people were in the cinema for the first session back after the break, while 16 people patronised the 10.30am session of family drama film Love Sarah in the upstairs cinema.
COVID-19 regulations stipulate 50 people maximum are allowed in each of the two auditoriums at Richmond Regent. Every second row is blocked off and groups must leave two chairs between them and the next group to allow for social distancing.
