The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Barry Calvert has congratulated the Windsor Paddlesports Club Inc. on receiving a new $801,218 grant through the NSW Government's Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund.
This is the third year that the club have applied for the grant and they are excited about the news that will enable the construction of a multi-purpose paddlesports facility at Macquarie Park in Windsor.
Club member Garry Baldry thinks it is fantastic that the grant finally came through for them.
"It's amazing," he said. "It'll make a big difference to the club. The building will house offices, a recreational room, storage space, a kitchen, everything we need.
"This gives us the opportunity to expand the support for the club in the area.
"We could bring in more sports like dragon boating, who currently have to go all the way to Penrith. There's also stand-up paddle boarding that could join.
The club hosts big events and they think this could make them so much better.
"It'll be great to have the facility right there, it will be perfect for big events," said Garry. Things like showers and change rooms ... we're very grateful and very excited.
"We're just working out the agreements for it now ... once we get that out of the way we can get it built.
Hawkesbury City Mayor Barry Calvert is proud of the hard work the club has put in to achieve this grant.
"Well done to all the club members on your successful grant application for this community facility, which I know was a lot of work," Mr Calvert said.
"Council is proud to be able to provide the land for your new clubhouse at Macquarie Park in Windsor.
"This will be a major Hawkesbury sporting facility that supports water sports on our beautiful Hawkesbury River."
Along with Hawkesbury City Council the club thanked multiple organisations for their support in getting the grant, including; the NSW State Government, Paddle NSW, Paddle Australia, Pink Finss Charity, Kurrajong, North Richmond and Windsor Rotary Clubs and the NSW Dragon Boat Association.
