Life in COVID-19 isolation has led to two women reconnecting after almost 50 years.
Not even the Pacific Ocean has been enough to restrict the reunion of two year of 1972 class members of the Dominican Convent once located in Moss Vale.
Bernadette Aliklik (nee Ika) and Elizabeth Stokes (nee Kasza) were part of the Year 10 class of 1972.
It was the final year of operation for the convent as an all girls school for boarders and day students, before joining with Chevalier College.
Chevalier College had been an all boys boarding school since 1946 until easing into a co-educational program from 1973 with the introduction of students from the Dominican Convent.
It was the year that Elizabeth graduated moving in to the adult world of work, travel, marriage and families.
Straight out of school Elizabeth went to Moss Vale Secretarial College, before working with Mittagong Shire Council for seven years. She then moved to Sydney for work.
Bernadette went onto Chevalier College for her final two years then went back to Nauru where she married and raised 11 children, including one adopted child.
But in recent times during COVID-19 isolation the two woman were both doing a little reminiscing about the old school days.
Elizabeth said that a search of social media soon led to a re-connection with Bernadette through a mutual friend who was also in the class of 1972, Megan Eccleston (nee Szonyi)
"I was isolating in my home in Sydney and Bernadette was in lockdown in Fiji," she said.
The online reunion has prompted the school chums to seek other classmates, in the hope of a full class reunion.
Assistance with the missing names in the class pictured are also welcomed.
