Thousands of homes are set to remain without power overnight after Western Australia's southwest was battered by a vigorous cold front for almost 24 hours.
Western Power says crews are continuing to repair the damage caused by the severe weather which persisted through much of Wednesday.
More than 21,000 homes remain without electricity after powerful winds associated with the cold front brought down power lines and scattered debris, including tree branches and at least one trampoline in Mandurah.
About 11,500 homes remain affected in the Perth metropolitan area and 10,500 in the southern part of the network.
"Our priority is to clear hazards, like fallen power lines, to make sure the community is safe, and then look to restore power," a Western Power spokesperson said.
"We redirected teams to make sure the new hazards were made safe, resulting in a delay to the restoration efforts.
"Our forward plan is for fresh crews to continue work throughout the night and then into the early hours of the morning, to deal with hazards as they occur and restore customers where possible."
At the peak, about 55,000 customers were affected by storm-related outages.
Supply was restored to about 20,000 homes on Wednesday morning but further damage in the afternoon had left others hanging.
The southern suburbs of Capel, Vasse, Bunbury and Busselton appeared to have felt the brunt of the storm.
Western Power said the extent of the damage and complexity of repairs required meant some customers would be without power overnight.
"We apologise to those customers and will continue to work towards restoring them as quickly as safely as possible, especially before nightfall," the spokesperson said.
A severe weather warning was cancelled on Wednesday afternoon as the deep low pressure system moved away from the coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology said wind speeds reached 128km/h at Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin and 113 km/h at Rottnest Island.
Heavy rain was also recorded in some areas including 92mm at Garden Island.
Emergency services had answered more than 480 calls for help since 9am Tuesday, the bureau said.
