A cold snap that has forced the mercury below zero in southern Queensland and delivered temperatures up to 10 degrees below the minimum May average will linger for a few more days.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Gabriel Branescu said a slow-moving high-pressure system in the Great Australian Bight was directing a dry and cool air mass across the whole state.
The brunt of the cold snap is being felt across inland towns near the New South Wales border, like Stanthorpe, and the Darling Downs and Warrego regions in southwest Queensland.
"Cooler temperatures are here to stay for a few more nights, especially Monday morning with temperatures to drop, even below zero around the Stanthorpe area," Mr Branescu said.
"Roma, as well, may see temperatures dropping to near zero degrees...and large areas of frost in the Darling Downs and Maranoa and Warrego, expected for another morning or two."
"Temperatures will start to moderate from Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
He said the overnight temperatures on Saturday were "seven to 10 degrees below the average" for May in the Wide Bay area.
