Gracie Barra Hawkesbury Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Windsor has moved classes online after having to close its doors for the current time due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
With the minimisation of contact for community safety, Gracie Barra looked to technology and a bit of creativity to stay connected and healthy in body and spirit.
They have set up classes using the streaming site Zoom to provide their students with 14 live streamed classes per week, taught by the academy's coaches and professors.
Students also have free access to Gracie Barra's portal with a library full of content and live lessons from black belts around the world.
Gracie Barra's Professor David Jenkinson said it's been a fun challenge moving online but it has been set up quickly as the academy prepared to move online prior to the Government's mandate.
"The classes are mainly solo drills," he said. "We are encouraging students to build their own grappling dummies ... stuffing towels and blankets into uniforms ... or having their partners get involved.
The online classes are scheduled similarly to the academy's normal times, as they try to suit as many people as possible.
New students are welcomes and classes can be catered to any level.
