Hawkesbury local Susan Brookes has been crafting items for 45 years and recently started to make Happy Masks, handcrafted face masks made from 100 per cent premium cotton.
With the recent demand for face masks caused from the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Susan decided to make the masks available online through madeit.com.au.
Though they are not P2 medical masks they can still be effective in preventing droplet transmission from infected individuals.
Susan thought that her reusable masks would be better than a lot of the white disposable mask that people currently have, that will end up in landfill.
They are eco-friendly and more stylish, while filling the high demand for face masks currently being experienced.
"These are not for medical use but can be used over the top of others if people don't want to have just the plain white masks," said Susan.
"Or they can be used by themselves. They are handcrafted and high quality, 100 per cent premium cotton with new designs added every week.
"The designs are fashionable and unique, and come in a large range of modern and traditional designs to pick from, or made to order.
"The masks come in two sizes; small which can fit kids from around 10-years-old and most women, and large which can fit most men.
Susan's masks are comfortable and with premium cotton that is double layered and pre-washed. They have a dual pattern and reversible design.
They are light, breathable, durable, reusable and machine washable with quality elastic ear straps, side pleats and nose support.
"Happy Masks are reusable and when I send them out I use environmentally friendly packaging," she said. "It is all paper packaging that can be disposed of easily.
"They are eco-friendly. Hopefully people will buy and use these instead of the masks that will just be thrown away after one use."
Susan donates a percentage of all sales to a charity of her buyers choice.
"Each time a product is purchased the buyer can vote on a charity they want to support and each quarter the one with the most votes will be chosen," she said.
"This quarter's charity is the National Bushfire Disaster Appeal.
"I wanted to be able to give back to the community in this uncertain time."
