Cafes in the Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains have stopped accepting reusable "keep" cups as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus.
Cassiopeia Specialty Coffee in Windsor announced the changes on Tuesday, with owner Zac Suito saying they were being cautious without being alarmist.
"While we care deeply for the environment, we also want to ensure the health and safety of our customers and our staff at a time like this," he said.
Mr Suito said most customers were understanding about the change, which the business has promoted on social media and with signs in their George Street cafe.
"Where possible, we're also asking that customers pay by card rather than cash," he said.
The changes were led by operations manager Courtney Hall and head roaster Tom Bamford.
In neighbouring Blue Mountains, CafeXpresso in Katoomba has also stopped accepting reusable cups and is even posting information about its cleaning practises and barista temperatures in store.
"We at CafeXpresso Katoomba have been taking the current health advice very seriously, here you can order a coffee, maintain your 1.5 metre social distancing while being assured we are going above and beyond internally," the cafe posted on its Facebook page.
Con's Continental Deli in Glenbrook has also stopped accepting keep cups and all food is being served in takeaway packaging.
McDonald's McCafes nationwide have also suspended the use of keep cups until further notice.
