Hawkesbury Baseball's G2 Men's squad had an exciting finish to their 2019/20 season as they defeated Colyton in their Grand Final on Saturday, February 29.
The Hawks got away to a 10 - 2 lead and were cruising along. Colyton put up a spirited comeback that saw the game come to a tie in the final innings, making it 10-all at full-time.
An extra innings was required to decide the season's champion.
Colyton batted first against Mitch Coote's pitching, who pitched the whole game, and put up two runs.
The Hawks came in and added two of their own.
"With the game locked 12-all, we were two-out with loaded bases, a grandstand finish," said Hawkesbury Baseball's Rusty Brookes.
"Zac Plummer came into bat. He hit a sky high ball in the infield which Colyton did not capitalise on.
"The poor old catcher and pitcher looked at each other like under eight's and it bounced right in-between them.
"This allowed Zac Brookes to get home for the win.
Rusty said it was great season in a really close competition as three teams ended up tying for first.
"It was a fun year and I recommend people come down and have a go," he said. "It's what we did four or five years ago and it's been great.
"Thank-you from the club and the team to all the umpires that officiated during the year ... without them we have no game."
