Maraylya's Josh Glinn has thrust himself into the sport of Formula Ford over recent years and is now seeing his hard work payoff.
The 21-year-old, who started in the Moto Racing Australia Super TT series driving a Triumph Dolomite Sprint in 2016, made the leap to Formula Ford, having purchased a 2008 Formula Ford in 2018.
"I grew up watching my dad race," said Josh.
"The opportunity came up when I saw the car for sale online and thought it might be cool if I step up and give it a go, so I did."
Josh decided to make the move to Formula Ford since many successful drivers have come from the same beginnings.
Many consider Formula Ford to be one of the main feeder categories into the big classes of racing in Australia.
"That category is where all the famous drivers started," he said.
"I was like 'lets do it ... lets buy a car'.
"So I did and now I run and maintain the car myself."
Josh works out of Castle Hill Toyota, who is also his sole sponsor, and spends any time he can spare on the car.
"I work on the car when I can ... sometimes with my dad ... I want to make it the best I can," he said.
"I'm constantly looking to improve it and make it better."
He races in both the NSW and the Australian Formula Ford Championships, and had a very successful 2019 as he started to see a lot of improved placings in his classes.
Josh came third for the full year in the Formula Ford Kent 1600 class.
He was also first in the K Class and fourth for the national championships in this class.
"I was awarded a very prestigious award by Motorsport Australia for being a great ambassador for the sport," he said.
"I have managed to get some good placings throughout last year ... I got two podiums and hopefully can do better this year."
Josh is looking forward to the 2020 season as he only has the opportunity to race once around every two months, and manages to get behind the wheel just in preparation for race meets.
"I am really looking forward to it," he said.
"I am very excited to see what we can do. Especially now that I've gotten some decent results under my belt.
"I want to see if I can get more than two podiums and possibly win this year.
"Definitely, I am hoping to get more sponsors this year."
Josh has managed to achieve quite a bit in racing with support form mainly his family and work.
He thanks Toyota Castle Hill for their sponsorship: "If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be racing".
"Anyone looking to get into racing, the Formula Ford series is the best."
