Up to six Royal Australian Air Force F-35A Lightning II aircraft from No. 3 Squadron, based at RAAF Base Williamtown, will conduct diversion training into RAAF Base Richmond on Wednesday, February 26.
The aircraft will conduct instrument approaches and 'touch and go' landings in three waves during nominated times.
Instrument Landing System approach training is an essential part of pilot training on fast-jet aircraft as it assists pilots to land at different airfields in all weather conditions, according to the Department of Defence.
The diversion training will occur between 10am and 12pm, and between 2pm and 4pm.
The date and time for this activity are subject to variables such as weather and operational availability, and may change.
RAAF Base Richmond requests that local residents do not call the base directly for updated timings.
