Hawkesbury District Health Service (HDHS) has brought a slice of Bilpin to the hospital, with the famous Bilpin Fruit Bowl apple pies sold at the hospital to help raise funds for the area's bushfire recovery efforts.
The hospital's 'save Bilpin and eat an apple pie' campaign raised more than $1,500, as a part of the 'Back to Bilpin' campaign, with all proceeds going to support the St Vincent de Paul Society's Bushfire Appeal.
HDHS Acting Chief Executive Officer Belinda Mott said the hospital was keen to continue supporting the community through the bushfire disaster recovery phase.
"This initiative was a great way to raise awareness of the ongoing need to support local businesses that had been impacted by the fires that tore through the region late last year," she said.
"When the Back to Bilpin campaign was launched, we saw this as a great opportunity to remind everyone that Bilpin, which is only 30 minutes away, is back open for business, with the region offering a great range of fresh produce and products.
"The Bilpin apple pie is an Australian icon, so it was an easy choice for us to highlight these delicious home-made pastries. Our staff were eager to get behind the cause and we are pleased to say that all the apple pies were gone within a couple of hours."
The likely benefits of the hospital's campaign look set to continue with many HDHS staff remarking that they will now be making the trip to Bilpin to share in the area's delights with family and friends.
