Australian comedian, Peter Helliar is bringing his new show 'Loopy' to Windsor RSL next Friday, February 28.
Despite having worked across so many different forms of media and entertainment, Peter always returns to his roots as a stand up comic.
Every two years he goes on tour, trying to hit as many venues as possible with his popular observational comedy.
Peter Helliar describes 'Loopy' as "an hour of a bit of stand up ... a reflection of the things I have been thinking about or experiencing".
"After a lot of years the shows become quite personal because you are reflecting on things that have happened to you," Peter said.
"I found that when I was putting 'Loopy' together a lot of it is stuff more about community, society, where we are at the moment as a people, as a country, and as a world ... exploring those kinds of issues.
"Stand up is a way for me to understand myself, my kids, my marriage and my community. Really a reflection on the things around me."
Despite his vast experience and obvious acclaim, Peter is a humble fellow, preferring to refer to himself as "completely unqualified and unskilled".
"I have been very fortunate to be able to have people who have championed me to have experience across a range of mediums and different kinds of story telling, which is what I'm really interested in," he said.
"Stand up was one of the first things that I began with and it's my one true love I guess.
"It's the most honest of them all because you are literally standing on an empty stage with a microphone and there is no collaboration with stand up comedy ... there's no meetings ... or writer's room or producers.
"It's what I love about it. You are really by yourself and you get to either fall flat on your face or enjoy the warm embrace of an audience.
"I try to find ways to include the audience outside of the typical, 'Where are you from? What do you do for a living?' ... I try to find more ways to include them in the show; and that's not bringing them on stage or anything, it's more just chatting.
"I do like the craft of putting a show together and working on it and when you start with zero minutes ... and slowly but surely you put a show together."
Peter likes the ability to do what he wants on stage: "You can do one-off gags or 10 minutes of silliness with stand up ... I like the freedom."
Peter hasn't performed at Windsor before and is looking forward to getting in front of the Hawkesbury audience.
"I cant wait to kick it off," he said
Peter Helliar's 'Loopy' starts at 8.30pm and tickets are on sale now. Visit windsorrsl.com.au for bookings.
