Australian of the Year Dr James Muecke wants a tax on sugary drinks.
Health Minister Greg Hunt has rebuffed calls from the Australian of the Year to impose a tax on sugary drinks.
Mr Hunt said the Morrison government did not agree with eye surgeon James Muecke, who is calling for more action to try and crack down on sugar in drinks and processed foods.
A sugar tax is central to his campaign.
"We don't support one," Mr Hunt told ABC radio on Monday.
"We don't think that driving up the price of household goods for families is the way of achieving this particular outcome."
