Picture yourself boarding the Viking Cruises ship in London. Set your watch to Greenwich Mean Time and settle in to your stateroom. If you've not been to London before, there'll be plenty of time to check out the Tower of London, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.

Next stop is the Scottish capital of Edinburgh and then into the far north of Scotland - to the remote and remarkable Orkney and Shetland islands, where you'll begin to see the influence of Viking culture on this part of the world.

After a journey across the Norwegian Sea, you'll arrive in Honningsvag, a tiny island outpost from where you can reach the prize destination for many Arctic adventurers: Nordkapp (North Cape).

Then it's all points south, through the Lofoten Islands, with their soaring, jagged peaks above sheltered bays where traditional fishing cottages seem to hover over the water on stilts, and on to Geiranger, the village at the top of one of Norway's most spectacular fjords, before your final stop - Bergen and its charming Old Town of cobblestone lanes.

Along the way, you'll be able to savour Nordic-inspired spa treatments and the flavours of Scandinavian cuisine, within walking distance of your stateroom.
