A man has been charged after a pile burn allegedly resulted in a grass fire at Freemans Reach during a total fire ban.
Emergency crews attended a residential property on Terrace Road following reports of an uncontrolled grass fire in the afternoon of September 6, according to Hawkesbury police.
"The fire was eventually extinguished some hours later," police stated.
"Fire investigators from the Rural Fire Service subsequently examined the scene and traced the fire to a pile burn on an adjoining property. September 6 was declared a total fire ban day in Greater Sydney, where no fire in the open is permitted.
"Following a joint investigation by NSW Rural Fire Service and a Rural Crime Investigator from Hawkesbury police, a 67-year-old male from Freemans Reach was charged with offences under the Rural Fires Act and the Protection of the Environment Operations Regulation."
The male is due to appear before Windsor Local Court in January 2020.
