The Northern Land Council has issued a statement advising the Gunbalanya community is closed as a result of Monday's horror road smash.

Police believe all five people killed in the crash west of Jabiru were from Gunbalanya which is located north east of the Kakadu town.

The NLC says the community is closed due to Sorry Business.

"Only essential services, support services and family will be allowed to enter the community. No access to visitors, tour groups and the media until further notice.

"Any person issued with a permit please note that they will now be revoked until further notice."

According to the West Arnhem Regional Council, Gunbalanya has a population of around 1200.
