Cricket Australia has heaped praise on Kristen Beams after the pioneering Tasmanian cricketer confirmed her retirement.
Tasmania's lack of a national side prompted the Launceston-born former Exeter High student from Legana to move to Victoria and she went on to build an exceptional domestic and international career.
Beams, 35, has retired from all forms of the game, having represented Australia's Test, One-Day International and Twenty20 sides, Victoria in the Women's National Cricket League and the Melbourne Stars in the Women's Big Bash League.
A proud Tasmanian, she forged a career as a dangerous and consistent leg-spinner, playing one Test match, 30 ODIs and 18 T20Is in which her bowling average was an impressive 16.60.
She's been a wonderful ambassador of the game

She made her international debut in August 2014 in an ODI against Pakistan as one of the leading spin bowlers in the country.
Beams made her T20I debut just a few days later, with her Test debut coming during Australia's successful Ashes series against England in August 2015.
Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts congratulated Beams on "a terrific career both for Australia and her adopted home state of Victoria".
"We are so grateful for the contribution she has made on and off the field," he said.
"She's been a wonderful ambassador of the game, always willing to go the extra mile to inspire the next generation of cricketers as well as having had a significant impact in the all abilities space.
"Kristen has held a number of off-field roles within cricket and we hope to see her face around the game for years to come.
"We thank Kristen for her service to cricket and wish her all the best for the future."
Beams' strong leadership qualities saw her captain Victoria and the Melbourne Stars.
