Hawkesbury Race Club hosted its annual Ladies Day races at the Clarendon race track on Thursday, November 7.
There was a large amount of Hawkesbury trained horses racing on the eight-race card on the day.
Race one saw a third place finish for Garry White's War Cabinet, who was the favourite heading into the race.
Race four, the Richmond Club Provincial and Country Maiden Handicap (1100m), saw the largest Hawkesbury field with eight of the 10 horses racing having been trained in the local area.
Hawkesbury's Budhwar, trained by Brooke Somers and ridden by Jean Van Overmeire, held the lead down the home stretch.
But after breaking late the race favourite, Kim Waugh-trained Sarah Elizabeth jockeyed by Jay Ford, pulled out a late come-from-behind win to snatch victory by just 0.2 of a length.
Budhwar finished second with Charmmebaby, trained by Tara and Phillippe Vigouroux, slotting into third.
Race six saw the next placing for a Hawkesbury horse with roughie, Lexi's Choice, trained by Scott Singleton, flying into a second place finish.
Gary Portelli's Sky Diamond looked to have an easy win the Skin Fitness Class 1 Handicap (1600m) before Lexi's Choice came up the final stretch to, push for a photo finish.
Lexi 's Choice finished just 0.2 lengths back.
Unfortunately no other Hawkesbury trained horses managed a place for the rest of the day.
The headlining race of the day, the $150,000 Lander Toyota Ladies Day Cup (1600m), saw a 12-horse field line up at the gates. The final stretch saw the top five breakaway, and a photo finish that determined the first three.
The Chris Waller-trained Cellarman, who was jockeyed by Mitchell Bell, managed to just edge ahead of his competition to take out first place. Just 0.1 lengths back Tamarack, trained by Joseph Pride, took out second with Taikomochi, taking out third, 0.3 lengths off first.
The Cellarman racing team from Chris Waller thanked the club, supporters and attendees of ladies day who "always make it a great day."
Fashions on the Field
Hawkesbury Race Club hosted its Annual Toyota Lander Ladies Day a the Clarendon race track on Thursday, November 7.
As tradition on the day, it also hold a Fashions on the Field competition, attracting both local and visiting fashionistas to show off their best spring racing wear.
The competition was split into multiple categories, including best dressed lady in contemporary and classic, best dressed man and over all best millinery.
The day featured three guest judges, "the style doctor" Kash O'hara, owner of One Of Three Boutique Emma Barbagallo and Carloe Maher of the Sydney Millinery Company.
Racing NSW Representative, Julieanne Horsman emceed the event.
Prizes that featured for the winners included; a travel voucher from Flight Centre Cruise, 'Stylish Shopper' personal styling and shopping experience with Kash O'Hara (The Style Doctor), products from Skin Fitness, One Of Three Boutique Millinery voucher from Carole Maher -The Sydney Millinery Co., an Easy Lane voucher, a bottle of Mumm, Swarovski cuff and a Swarovski pen and charms.
The Best Dressed Man attracted three title competitors. Daniel Sadler was declared the winner.
The Best Dressed Lady in the classic category was Rachel Harry, who said she was very happy with her win.
"I have been entering [Hawkesbury's] Fashions on the Field for about 20 years and this is the first time I have won," she said.
"I made the whole outfit myself. It took me a couple of weeks; tweaking it putting on bits and pieces, changing bits and pieces."
Rachel said that it wasn't the first time she had made her own outfit for the event.
"I work up to this every year, I love it," she said. "I was born and bred in the Hawkesbury but I live out past Tamworth and come back every year for this."
The Best Dressed Lady in the contemporary category was Bryony Tayler, a Newcastle competitor who is newer to the Fashions on the Field competition.
"This is my sixth time competing and my first big win, so I'm very happy," said Bryony.
"My suit is handmade and then I've embellished individually sewn-on pearls onto it yesterday. It's a bit of both ... I added my little tweaks."
"My hat is from SHR Millinery, made by Stacey Roberts, who is from the Hawkesbury area."
#TeamTye Initiative
The club rolled out its Tye Angland Initiative at Ladies Day.
Following a horrific fall in Sha Tin on November 25, 2018 Hawkesbury Jockey Tye Angland was confirmed a quadriplegic as a result of the injuries sustained.
Angland still frequents Hawkesbury meetings and so the club installed ramps into the jockeys' room.
The club will be donating a percentage of race course admission takings from thursday to #TeamTye, which was started by Angland's wife, Erin.
Hawkesbury Race Club stated it was excited to support the #TeamTye initiative, which showed the club's continuing support for Angland and all jockeys unfortunately injured across the industry.

Hawkesbury's premier trainer, Brad Widdup, managed to snag a huge victory on Tuesday, November 5 at Flemington with three-year-old filly, Akari.
The win sees Akari continuing a great career with six placings from as many starts, including three firsts place finishes coming in the 2019-20 season.
