A gofundme campaign has been started to raise funds for the young family of a man killed on his way to work in the early hours of Saturday morning at North Richmond.
Father-of-two Steve Arnold, 41, was a passenger of his co-worker, Aaron Shepherd, 22, when their vehicle was hit head-on by another about 4.30am on Saturday, November 9 on Bells Line of Road.
Mr Shepherd suffered multiple injuries, including a broken elbow, shoulder and ribs as well as injuries to his spleen and eye socket, and was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Mr Arnold tragically died at the scene.
A 40-year-old woman who had been driving the second vehicle was also taken to Westmead Hospital suffering serious injuries, according to police.
The woman attended Parramatta police station the following day, and was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving (occasioning death), negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm) and not keep left of dividing line.
She was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on November 11.
Mr Shepherd's sister, Emily, has set up a gofundme campaign for Mr Arnold's wife, Roxanne, and two young children, Charlotte and Cooper, with the aim of raising $100,000 for the family.
"I am asking for donations on their behalf to provide some sort of assistance and financial relief in these sad, devastating times," she stated on the fundraiser.
"As a community we will rally around this family and show them that they are not alone."
Mr Shepherd posted on Facebook the incident had been "the single most life changing event I have ever experienced" and paid tribute to his co-worker and mentor.
"He was a very big part of our cohort and working lives. I will miss his jokes and atmosphere this man brought to my daily life," he posted.
"One of my great mentors and taken too soon. RIP Steve.
"Drive safe everyone and don't take the small things for granted and tell your parents you love them."
Thousands of dollars had been raised for the family within hours of the fundraiser starting, with donors stating they had been extremely shocked and saddened by the incident.
