Family and friends of Peter Whatson held the fourth annual Peter Whatson Memorial Golf Day at Windsor Country Golf Club on Friday, November 1.
Since the day's inception it has raised nearly $70,000 for the Melanoma Institute of Australia and to help with melanoma research. This cause was chosen as Pete passed from melanoma.
There was a great turn-out for the day with Pete's family, long-time friends and co-workers and more coming out.
Former Rugby League player Terry Lamb was there to emcee for the day and really got involved in the event.
"Terry Lamb brought something new to it, we've never had someone like him involved in it before," said Pete's wife and one of the organisers, Trish.
They ran a silent auction and a raffle, with gifts donated by the day's sponsors. Along with a bar fridge stocked with drinks for which they sold keys.
They also ran various golfing challenges throughout the event, such as closest to the pin.
"It was a good day," said Trish. "We raised around $23,000, which we feel pretty good about."
This surpassed their goal of $20,000 for the day.
"Windsor is a good club and they were really accommodating of us and the event," she said.
"We are grateful for anyone who donated to the event ... all the prizes that we received, it was great.
"We are really appreciative of the support.
"We're going into our fifth year next year. We hope to make it even bigger and better, as we have done each year."
