The memorial to a Windsor resident killed in action in Afghanistan has been replaced by Hawkesbury Council after being vandalised.
Private Luke Worsley, who was born in Windsor, was killed while serving in Afghanistan in November 2007, aged just 26 years old.
A memorial featuring his picture was established in Howe Park in 2011.
The picture was badly damaged in August, an act that infuriated members of the Windsor RSL Sub-Branch, with Secretary Leon Walker calling it a "low act".
He thanked Council for replacing the plaque.
"We're very appreciative of the Council for doing that," he said.
Sean Perry, Manager Parks and Recreation, Hawkesbury Council, said Council and community members were disappointed that the sign was vandalised.
"Acts of vandalism such as this not only disrespect the contributions that individuals make to our society but divert resources away from other projects," Mr Perry told the Gazette.
Council spent $658 to have the plaque replaced.
