Hawkesbury Cricket Club finished up the second day of its two-day match against Penrith during round three of the NSW Premier Cricket Competition on Saturday, October 28.
The First Grade squad was depleted during the match with many of its regular players out.
The match also saw young bowler, Bailey Thompson, make his First Grade debut.
After declaring on 8/342 last weekend the Hawks felt they were in great position and when young fast bowler, Austin Philip, took the wicket of Penrith opener Brent Atherton, everything looked good.
Unfortunately, the next partnership saw NSW contracted players Ryan Hackney and Ryan Gibson each go off for centuries scoring 131 and 186, respectively. Penrith finished with 1/346, winning the match.
Despite Second Grade having a disappointing first innings that saw them all out for 93 and Penrith declare on 4/265, they fought back.
Led by 18-year-old Patrick Moore, who scored his maiden century with 100 not out, Hawkesbury finished with 3/213, but lost due to the first innings.
Third Grade also lost the first innings. Hawkesbury were all out for 170 and Penrith declared on 4/180. The Hawks went back into bat but ran out of time.
Fourth Grade had an easy win and sit at the top of the table having won all of their matches. They posted 7/341 last week before declaring, with 139 runs from Zulfiqar Salahuddin and 94 from Dean Laing.
Hawkesbury bowled brilliantly and manged to have Penrith all out for 121, including 7/32 from 48-year-old Paul Devaney who has returned to the club this season after a number of years away.
"This is close to the best figures for the club in Fourth Grade," said club president Hugh Mckay.
Fifth Grade had a great game and just fell short of the win. After Penrith declared with 8/252 and the Hawks came in and hit 229 on the back of 80 from Brock Fitton and and 75 from Lachlan Jacobs.
Sixth Grade also have not lost this season. They scored 250 against Georges River in the first innings before bowling them all out for 150 and forcing a follow-on, that only saw 3/70 scored before the match ended.
On Sunday, October 27 the Hawkesbury Kingsgrove T20 team snagged their second win defeating Blacktown by three runs. Hawkesbury set a total of 7/139 and Blacktown scored 4/136.
"It was a very close match. Blacktown needed six runs off the last ball but only scored two," said Mckay.
"Next Sunday at Bensons we will face Northern Districts at 10am and Sydney University at 2:30pm it'll be a good double header."
Hawkesbury will be looking for a playoffs spot with a win next Sunday, October 3.
