Local fire crews are being praised for their quick action to contain an out-of-control blaze being fanned by high winds at East Kurrajong.
Hawkesbury police said a motorist noticed a small grass fire at the intersection of Putty Road and East Kurrajong Road shortly before 11.30am on Saturday, October 26.
"He tried to put the fire out but could not," police stated. "The fire spread quickly due to the strong winds and a nearby house was under threat."
The NSW Rural Fire Service deployed crews including those from East Kurrajong, Grose Wold, Ebenezer, and Blaxland Ridge as well as aircraft to the area.
Putty Road was closed in both directions while firefighters worked to contain the blaze, and East Kurrajong Road was also closed for a short time.
A police command post was established on Putty Road and the fire in that vicinity was contained, however "due to high winds the fire front quickly moved south encroaching on several properties", Hawkesbury police stated.
The fire was declared under control about 2.30pm and the RFS downgraded it to watch and act status, however firefighters remained on scene to achieve full containment.
The blaze had burned out approximately 10 hectares of land by Sunday afternoon, with the RFS still listing it at advice level.
No one was injured in the blaze and no properties lost "largely due to the excellent response from RFS crews", police stated.
A second fire was continuing to burn on the Boree Trail, west of Bucketty in the Hawkesbury Local Government Area (LGA) on Sunday.
"This fire is burning in a remote area with firefighters being assisted by a number of aircraft," an RFS statement said.
A total fire ban was in place for the Hawkesbury area on October 26.
