The generosity of a group of Hawkesbury's kindest hearts is being felt in rural NSW.
A vital care pack of practical items recently made its way to folk at drought-stricken Coonabarabran in northern NSW, thanks to the efforts of the Inner Wheel Club of Hawkesbury.
Their package was delivered to the Coonabarabran CWA as part of the We Care Road Trip, an initiative of Newcastle native Anne-Marie Best, which sees folk from all round travel to rural areas and provide donations of goods to farming communities.
The recent trip, held last month, also visited Merriwa, Dunedoo and Gilgandra.
The Inner Wheel's package included little luxuries including Tim Tams, and a host of essentials, like new socks and underwear, hand sanitiser and water.
The group organised for the goods to be packed into a car and driven to Newcastle, where it was loaded into the trunk of the touring bus for delivery.
The We Care Road Trip was conceived last year and runs twice annually.
It relies on the generosity of businesses and individuals and has so far generated more than $83,000 of support for a number of rural communities.
Of that figure, $51,000 has been injected into communities and rural businesses and $32,000 has gone directly to farmers in need.
"Through Anne-Marie's brainchild We Care Road Trip we have been given the opening to assist where we can, where perhaps without this opportunity it would have stayed in the back of our minds as something we need to get around to," said participant of the recent tour Tanya Ananin.
