Jesse Holton was shocked and delighted to be named the Youth Award winner at the Hawkesbury Local Business Awards.
The second year apprentice at Yourstyle Landscaping said he only found out a week before the awards night that he was a finalist.
"I certainly wasn't expecting to be the winner of the category as I don't visualise myself as being any greater than the many young people around my age," Mr Holton said.
The first-time nominee said he didn't really know why he was chosen as the winner but he believed in focusing on his work and "doing what needs to be done".

"I know I put a lot of effort into my study at TAFE and that I have tried my hardest to be the best I can be in my field," the humble young man said.
"I don't believe I do anything different from those at a similar age making their way in the workforce.
"I believe many of us wish to work hard to create a better life for ourselves and the people we care about." However, he did have some advice for any other young people who were keen to succeed.
"Write down your tasks and goals - whether they be big or small - so that you are constantly reminded of the things you have set out to conquer," he said.
"That allows you to break down your thoughts and ideas and to see the progress you are making."
Mr Holton said he would like to thank his boss and his colleagues for their guidance.
