Riders, helpers and horses have celebrated the grand opening of new shade structures for Riding for the Disabled (RDA) Richmond.
The Hawkesbury's hot weather has proved to be a struggle in the past, and the group began the process to cover the horses' standing yards and extend the arena to conduct more activities out of direct sunlight about three years ago.
After a long process, the Richmond group were able to get construction completed this year, and on Saturday, September 14 the covers were officially opened.
The whole project will enhance the lives of many riders and the welfare of the horses.
- Ian Travers
Present for the opening was Macquarie MP Susan Templeman and Hawkesbury MP Robyn Preston, RDA Richmond president Ian Travers, as well as riders and their families.
Michelle Corcoris-Nguyen and Fiona Hancock did the honours and cut the red ribbon to open the new structures.
"The whole project will enhance the lives of many riders and the welfare of the horses," Mr Travers said in a statement.
"We enter many competitions and this will enable us to practice out of the sun."
