Ozzie, a 10-year-old Eclectus parrot, has been rescued by Hawkesbury State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers after flying the coop in Grose Wold.
The cheeky parrot escaped his cage on Tuesday, August 6 and flew about 20 metres up into a nearby eucalyptus tree, an SES statement said.
NSW SES Large Animal Rescue Expert and Hawkesbury Unit deputy commander David King said volunteers were able to rescue Ozzie with help from the Grose Wold Rural Fire Brigade.
"A stream of water was aimed above the parrot ensuring his feathers were soaked through," Mr King said.
"Then with some careful coaxing, Ozzie gave up his perch and fluttered down to the ground.
"Ozzie was quickly wrapped up into a towel to avoid any fingers coming into contact with his beak."
A somewhat soggy Ozzie was then handed back his owner and headed inside for some TLC and gentle drying with the blow dryer, Mr King said.
