The North West Magpies Junior Rugby League Club held its second annual Grandparents Day on Saturday, July 20 at Tamplin Oval, Hobartville.
The day saw all of the clubs' teams playing at their home ground, with grandparents of players coming out with them onto the field prior to every match.
It was a huge day, with the club growing to 11 teams in just its second year.
"The day is all about our players and grandparents, with the grandparents joining the players on the field prior to each game," said club president Darrin Rawlings.
The day was accompanied by some great food and drink, with grandparents joining their grandchildren for free tea, coffee and scones after each game.
"We had over 200 grandparents in attendance on the day supporting our players," added Rawlings. "We wrapped up the day with an early dinner, which was enjoyed by all in attendance.
"The Magpies' focus is player development and a family atmosphere, which was achieved successfully on the day.
"We can't wait until our next grandparents day with even more players and wonderful grandparents."
To further player development and provide the opportunity for more people to join the sport, the North West Magpies will be running a league competition from September through to December for anyone wishing to trying rugby league without the tackling.
