Creepy dolls.
No matter how far society progresses, there will always be a place for films about malevolent playthings.
Even though Annabelle is trying to move in on his territory, the most famous murderous toy out there is undoubtedly Chucky.
The doll first made his appearance in Child's Play back in 1988 and now he's back - with a 21st century upgrade - in the reboot of the same name.
And it's definitely a reboot rather than a remake - the new Child's Play shares very little with its predecessor.
Apart from the name, general concept of a murderous doll and the fact the protagonists are a boy and his single mother, the majority of the plot is new.
Child's Play follows lonely child Andy (Gabriel Bateman, Lights Out), who has just moved to a new city with his mum Karen (Aubrey Plaza, Ingrid Goes West), as he connects with his computer-driven new 'Buddi' toy.
The doll, like most new gadgets these days, is connected to the internet and all other devices owned by its parent company, including TVs, drones, temperature controllers, cars and pretty much anything else with a computer inside. But Andy's Buddi doll (which has named itself Chucky) is not like all the others - he's been modified and his language and violence inhibitors have been turned off.
This is a hugely different origin story than the original film, where a murderous criminal invoked a 'voodoo ritual' to transfer his soul into a nearby doll.
This time around Chucky (voiced by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill) isn't so keen on exacting revenge on those who have wronged him.
Nope, he's more about eliminating the folks that stand in the way of his friendship with Andy.
And, uh, that's pretty much everyone.
There is gore galore and plenty of hilarious moments in this fun slasher film.
The child actors are great (whoever has been in charge of casting children in horror movies lately should be applauded - they're doing brilliantly) and Child's Play's obligatory detective Mike Norris (Brian Tyree Henry) is a hilarious scene-stealer.
Don't miss your chance to see Chucky - he's your friend to the end.
