Rooster Teeth's (RT) self named go-to actor for immortal characters, Shannon McCormick, will be coming to Sydney this weekend for Supanova Comic Con and Gaming Convention.
Being a voice and live-action actor for what started out as a small animation YouTube channel has led McCormick onto much bigger things.
He started appearing in RT content in 2007 and quickly became one of their rotating cast members as he was added to more and more shows and short sketches.
McCormick's major roles at RT have come in the form of voice acting, as he features as semi-immortal characters, Washington in its long-running show Red vs Blue (RVB), as well as newer shows like RWBY and Camp Camp.
"I got cast in RVB and I thought it was just a two days of work kind of thing because it was this miniseries and I thought (Washington) was dead," said McCormick.
"But no, Wash stuck around, I came back for season six and low and behold I'm still doing work with them (RT) 12 years later. It's been quite a wild ride."
Despite working with RT for so long McCormick believes only one role was written for him.
"I still go in and audition," he said, "I do think at times they have ideas in mind. I think they may have had the Quartermaster in mind for me from the beginning in Camp Camp. I'm not sure if that's the case.
"They were still pretty new to it when they cast Ospin in RWBY. I actually read for both Torchwick and Ospin, and Monty (RWBY creator) liked both of the voices I did.
"At the end of the audition he asked me 'which one do I want to do?', I said 'Ospin' because I had never really played a character like it before and I thought that would be a good challenge and it turned out to be the right call for a number of reasons."
"I feel like now that I have been playing Wash for so long they can take more risks with the writing of his character because they know what I can do."
After working for so long with RT, McCormick is starting to branch out into more work away from the company.
"I'm trying to write my own stuff. I have a screenplay. I have a TV show that I'm trying to write, I have a pilot that is doing well in a contest right now.
"That's where I want to end up career-wise, is on the writing and production side. It may not be immediate but that's something I'm working towards.
"I've got a couple things going on. Not Rooster Teeth, my own things that we'll see were they'll go and what will happen with them. It's been fun to work on that kind of stuff."
