SkyAces RC will be heading to The Fast Jets Airfield, Quakers Hill, on Sunday, June 16, to host an amazing day for fans and followers of large scale model aircrafts in a special fundraising day supporting NSW Kids In Need.
The event is expected to draw as many as 10 of Australia's top model makers and pilots, providing hours of fun and fascination for all ages.
The event will run from 10am to 1pm at Nirimba TAFE Campus.
Organiser Levi Wagner, from SkyAces RC said, "We have over 20 models this year, all exact replicas.
"I learnt to fly from the age of 14 and as time, technology and available money have increased over the years, I have seen models evolve from what is now a basic aircraft, to large, realistic and advance fast jets - it's really quite impressive in my eyes.
"Having wanted to be a fighter pilot my whole life, this is the next best thing for me. Our models are so big and heavy they need to be flown at active, full-sized airports."
New South Wales Kids in Need Chairman Peter Debnam expects the event to attract one thousand enthusiasts keen to meet the minds behind the technology, construction and flying of these large-scale aircraft models.
"Not only are the demonstrations really engaging, but last year we discovered it was as much about the line-up of jets on display that people love to study.
"It's extraordinary when you consider that some of these jets and planes are exact replicas up to a quarter of the size of the real thing, and some even run on actual jet fuel," he said.
Pilots and their fast jets are already preparing.
"It's an incredible spectacle," said Mr Debnam, "With large-scale jet aircraft models - including F18 Classic Hornets and MIG29 jet fighters - flying at up to 400 kilometres an hour. They're very exciting to watch."
"Not only are the aircrafts fascinating, but the pilots themselves each have great stories. We have some pilots as young as 13, who fly with some help from dad, and even an aeronautical engineer who only came to jet modelling when he turned 40.
"I've rarely encountered a more passionate group of people."
The event is part of the 2019 NSW Kids in Need event series and will raise much-needed funds to support the vital work of child-focussed charities including:
- Bear Cottage Children's Hospice
- The Burns Unit at The Children's Hospital at Westmead
- Central Coast Kids in Need
- Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Australia
- Muscular Dystrophy NSW
- SHINE for Kids
"Last year's event was a great success and it's thanks to the support and enthusiasm of all our partners and the attendees it's on again this year," said Mr Debnam.
"However, we wouldn't be in a position to make a difference to the lives of these children without the help of the SkyAces RC in offering this extraordinary experience."
NSW Kids in Need has raised more than $600,000 for child-focused charities over the past three years.
Tickets are $15 per person - with kids five-years and under free. Money raised on the day will be donated to New South Wales Kids in Need.
