Entries for the annual Waste 2 Art competition are now open, and Hawkesbury City Council is calling for primary school children to begin creating their recycled art projects.
The competition focuses on the '3Rs' of the waste hierarchy - reuse, reduce and recycle - to show how students can give waste a new purpose by transforming it into a creative artwork.
Through Waste 2 Art, Council hopes to encourage students to reduce, reuse and recycle waste at home and at school.
Students are invited to create a unique and individual artwork that is different to their classmates' artworks. The artwork may be either 2D or 3D and must follow the competition guidelines.
In terms of size, 3D artwork must be within 20cm; 2D artwork must be no larger than 20cm x 20cm. Entries must be made entirely of used/recycled materials.
Artworks will be exhibited at Hawkesbury Central Library during Local Government Week from Monday, July 29 until Sunday, August 4.
Winners will be announced at an official exhibition opening night on Monday, July 29 at 6pm at the library, 300 George Street, Windsor.
All entrants will receive a certificate to recognise their efforts. Students will be judged as per Stages 1, 2 and 3, and four prizes will be awarded per Stage: 1st prize - $200 gift voucher for art supplies; 2nd Prize - $100 gift voucher for art supplies; 3rd Prize - $50 gift voucher for art supplies Highly Commended - art hamper.
