The weather is getting cooler, and if you're anything like the Hawkesbury Gazette team, you're thinking 'movies at home on the lounge' is the only way to spend your weekend.
For those of you who don't use streaming services, never fear: Hawkesbury has one of the only old-school 'video shops' left in NSW, in the form of Civic Video Windsor, located in the Old Post Office Arcade off the mall.
New releases
Owner Guirong Wu said the top-five movies to hire this month are Aquaman, Bumblebee, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Mary Poppins Returns and Second Act.
Brand new in store are Instant Family, The Mule, Glass, The Favourite, Mary Queen of Scots, Storm Boy, Ben Is Back, and The Vanishing.
What's good
Like all good video shop owners, Mr Wu can give you a recommendation - or two.
His top two films out this month were Clint Eastwood's The Mule, and critically-acclaimed The Favourite.
"Clint Eastwood's latest film, acted and directed by the main himself, portrays a man in old age who gets involved with a drug cartel and becomes a runner, transporting drugs from near the border to at least one other city," Mr Wu said of The Mule.
"It's good fun the way he escaped police attention for so long just by portraying an old man travelling in an old care for his own purposes."
The film is based on a true story, and Mr Wu said Eastwood "holds his end up with great style. Recommended."
Of The Favourite, Mr Wu said it was the better of the two movies based on historical queens that had come out this month.
"The acting is so outstanding," he said.
"Set in the court of Queen Anne, the movie balances foreign wars with home-grown tussles in often very funny ways and occasionally alarming fashion."
The movie tells the story of the competition between Sarah, the Queen's personal advisor, and Abigail who "very quickly finds herself in the Queen's favour and bed".
"A good story, very funny at times and tragic at others," said Mr Wu.
Old favourite
Mr Wu also has a stock of classic films in-store, including this month's favourite, Million Dollar Baby.
"I like Clint Eastwood. Big Fan. Watched all his movies. I think Million Dollar Baby is his best one," Mr Wu said.
"Made in 2004, also by Clint Eastwood looking a lot younger than he does in The Mule, he again plays a cranky old guy who trains boxers, mostly latino or black young guys.
"But then along comes Hilary Swank who wants to train. Trouble is Clint doesn't want to train a 31-year-old white girl."
