Robyn Preston has become the first female Hawkesbury MP after retaining the seat for the Liberal Party at today's state election.
A rousing cheer broke out among party faithful at Windsor RSL when the ABC predicted the Liberals would retain the seat about 8.30pm with just over 15 per cent of the vote counted.
Ms Preston addressed those gathered about 9.15pm saying the campaign had been "all about the local candidates" and, as someone who had lived in the Hawkesbury electorate for more than 23 years and currently called Richmond home, she considered herself "blessed".
The victory not was not just for her but the entire local Liberal team, Ms Preston said.
"This is your victory, it's not my victory," she told supporters. "It's just wonderful to see the care and attention and how proud you are as Liberal volunteers here. You got this victory ... you deserve a round of applause.
"It's an outstanding result and couldn't have done it without all your help ... It's been very humbling and I thank you so much."
Ms Preston takes the reins from her former boss, Dominic Perrottet, who was predicted to retain the seat of Epping for the Liberals.
Labor candidate Peter Reynolds acknowledged the victory in a statement shortly before 9.30pm.
"We still don't have a lot of figures but what we have indicates Robyn will inherit the Hawkesbury electorate from Dominic Perrottet," he stated. "I congratulate Robyn and I hope she will work with me, as a Hawkesbury councillor, for a better Hawkesbury.
"I want to thank our wonderful community volunteers for their hard work and support of our campaign."
Mr Reynolds had earlier told supporters gathered at Windsor's Macquarie Arms they had conducted "a grassroots community campaign".
