The community is invited to a meeting to discuss per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination at Richmond, to be hosted by IMF Bentham, Dentons and Macquarie University.
"PFAS contamination has been recorded above environmental screening levels in groundwater, stock water and livestock around RAAF Base Richmond," the meeting organisers stated.
"The speakers have been invited by the community to share their experience and perspectives on the PFAS contamination, including issues such as what is happening at other sites around Australia and internationally, environmental and health risks, testing procedure, biosecurity risks, effect on property prices, effect on businesses, and availability of legal remedies.
"All members of the local community are welcome to attend, and there will be the opportunity to ask any questions you may have."
There will be speakers from each of the organisations, as follows.
Mark Patrick Taylor, Professor of Environmental Science at Macquarie University, who specialises in environmental contamination and the risks posed to human health, including by PFAS contained in firefighting foams.
Oliver Gayner, an Investment Manager at IMF Bentham, who since 2016 has been funding and managing the Federal Court class actions against the Department of Defence by the communities of Williamtown, Oakey and Katherine for losses caused to property and business owners by PFAS contamination.
John Dalzell and Ben Allen, Partners at Dentons lawyers in Sydney, who specialise in class actions and complex litigation. Both men are currently representing Williamtown residents in a class action brought against the Department of Defence for losses caused to property and business owners by PFAS contamination.
The meeting will take place in the Tebbutt Room at Hawkesbury Central Library in the Deerubbin Centre, 300 George Street, Windsor, at 6pm on Thursday, March 28.
The meeting is open to all, and attendees are asked to register their names at arrival.
