Negotiations have reportedly begun between top-rating Sydney broadcaster Alan Jones and his employer Macquarie Media following months of speculation about his future at 2GB.
The Australian says Macquarie Media chairman Russell Tate and chief executive Adam Lang will play a key role in discussions.
Jones's contract with the company expires on June 30 and Macquarie Media reportedly had until Wednesday to declare an interest in renewing talks to keep him at the station.
Mr Lang, in the Sydney Morning Herald, wouldn't be drawn on the contract negotiations, but wasn't concerned Tuesday's ratings results would have an impact.
The conservative broadcaster is still the number one broadcaster in breakfast with 15.2 per cent of audience share, but was down 1.3 per cent from the last ratings period.
