Test great Shane Warne wants to see Josh Philippe named in Australia's World Cup squad, but the wicketkeeper-batsman isn't sure if he's ready just yet.
Philippe announced himself as a future star with a strong display for the Sydney Sixers during the recent BBL season.
The 21-year-old West Australian averaged 30.4 with a strike rate of 158 during the tournament, with his swashbuckling style capturing the attention of a host of current and former stars.
Warne wants to see the right-hander included in the World Cup squad as a wicketkeeping back-up to Alex Carey.
But Philippe, who only made his one-day debut for WA five months ago, thinks it might be too soon.
"Look, I don't know," Philippe said.
"I did hear bits of pieces of that, but I'm not sure just yet is the time.
"I've still got a lot to learn and I've got to become more consistent as well.
"It's exciting hearing that sort of thing, but I've got to try to stay grounded and work on what I need to work on."
Philippe signed with the Sixers this summer after missing out on a central contract with his hometown team Perth Scorchers.
The lure of being handed the gloves at the Sixers was simply too good to refuse.
The Scorchers are keen to sign Philippe for next summer, but the Sixers will do their best to keep him.
Philippe formed a close bond with banned Test skipper Steve Smith while at the Sixers, and it could sway him to spend another BBL season in Sydney.
But Philippe confirmed he would be playing for WA in the Sheffield Shield and one-day competitions next summer.
The Warriors will be back in action when they take on NSW in a Shield clash at Bankstown Oval, starting Saturday.
But WA skipper Mitch Marsh is in doubt for the match after being struck in the groin at training on Tuesday.
Marsh will await the results of scans before a decision is made on his availability.
WA sit fourth on the table on 20.74 points, but are within striking distance of second-placed NSW (23.04) and Queensland (21).
