RACING returns to the Clarendon track today [February 21] and backs up quickly with Sunday’s [February 24] Polytrack Provincial Qualifier, with the Clarendon track in pristine condition after a two month layoff.
Course Manager Jeff Haynes, couldn’t be happier, with the tracks condition.
“We gave the track a good renovation, including verti-draining and implementing machinery which promotes root growth,” said Haynes.
“We have a magnificent thatch of grass with excellent cushion and I’m sure it will race well on both Thursday and Sunday, for the Polytrack Provincial Qualifier.”
The club’s multi-million dollar facelift of various amenities is currently underway and soon to be completed.
Whilst racing goes into recess in the hottest part of the Summer months, the Clarendon track has been a hive of activity early into the year, with upgrades to bars, function and administration areas.
With Sunday’s meeting the first of the Provincial Qualifiers, culminating in the final at Royal Randwick on Saturday April 13, Hawkesbury Race Club Chief Executive, Greg Rudolph, expects as strong field to be in contention for spots in the final.
“This is a $150,000 race, with the chance to qualify for a $500,000 final, so it will again be a competitive field and hotly contested,” said Rudolph.
“Apart from that, we have a great day planned out, with live bands, food stalls and kid’s entertainment, so there is something for everyone, on our first Sunday race day of the year.”
