Hawkesbury Council is supporting an initiative to provide the public with contact information for NSW Rape Crisis, a service which provides 24/7 telephone and online crisis counselling by qualified, experienced trauma counsellors, for anyone in NSW who has experienced, or is at risk of, sexual assault, family or domestic violence, as well as their non-offending supporters.
Known as the Dunny Door campaign, the aim is to have a sticker with 1800 424 017 on the back of every public toilet door in NSW, with the help of local councils.
Hawkesbury Mayor, Councillor Barry Calvert, said it was a practical but discrete way for Council to provide information on the 24/7 service for people in need: “A sticker on the back of a public toilet door means that the information can be viewed in private and consideration can then be given to accessing support services when it is safe to do so.”
Local organisations are encouraged to get involved by ordering the free stickers and installing them on the backs of all toilet doors at their own facilities.
Order the stickers online at www.rape-dvservices.org.au/Information/About-our-Services (scroll down to Online Resources Order Form and indicate the number of stickers in the NSW Rape Crisis Dunny Door Stickers box), or send an order request via email to info@rape-dvservices.org.au.
If you or someone you know is impacted by sexual assault, domestic or family violence, call 1800 424 017 or visit the website at www.rape-dvservices.org.au.
