Tributes have been flowing following the passing of popular local radio personality Gavin Casburn, who has passed away aged 63.
The vice president of Hawkesbury Radio died following complications from surgery on Sunday, February 3.
Mr Casburn had been a member of the station for more than three decades and had served as a long-time member of station management.
Hawkesbury Radio announced Mr Casburn’s death on its Facebook page on Monday.
“He had a wide interest in everything to do with the station beginning as a presenter, then as technical director, and eventually as treasurer and vice president,” the social media post stated.
“Gavin had an insatiable urge for learning - you could tell him something he didn’t know one day, and by the next day or so he would be an expert on that subject, having studied hard on it in the intervening time.
“He was knowledgeable about all the members, and their achievements and problems, the sponsors, our competitors, the regulators, and had a worthwhile opinion about every issue the station faced. He had a talent for cutting through the fog of obfuscation and getting rapidly to the heart of any matter and coming up with a solution.
“Gavin Casburn leaves a large hole in the association that will be difficult to fill.”
Mr Casburn was also highly regarded among the water ski racing and equestrian communities.
Among those sending their condolences to Mr Casburn’s family were Macquarie MP Susan Templeman and former Hawkesbury mayor, Mary Lyons-Buckett.
“I was so sorry to hear this today. Gavin’s last interview with me, on the eve of Australia Day, was an absolute delight to do. With his cheeky sense of humour and his willingness to call a spade a spade, he’ll be long remembered,” Ms Templeman posted.
Cr Lyons-Buckett said Mr Casburn had made a “wonderful contribution to the Hawkesbury community”.
“He will be sorely missed,” she posted.
Funeral arrangements are due to be announced within days.
