The State Government has unveiled the site of the new hospital to be built at Rouse Hill.
Riverstone MP Kevin Conolly was joined by Liberal candidate for Hawkesbury, Robyn Preston, as well as Health Minister Brad Hazzard at the Windsor Road site on February 1 for the announcement.
“I am very privileged to be part of the birth of a new hospital, to be located in the north-west region of Sydney. This is a very rare occasion, and where I stand at 768 Windsor Road Rouse Hill, is where stage one of this new hospital will be built,” Mr Conolly said in a statement.
The site is located on the corner of Windsor and Schofields Roads, and across the road from Rouse Hill Town Centre and the Rouse Hill Metro Station.
The government first promised a hospital for Rouse Hill in 2015, and committed $300 million in its 2017/18 budget towards a Rouse Hill Health Service.
The NSW Opposition has also promised a public hospital for the area, with construction to begin in the first term of a Labor government.
Mr Hazzard said the Rouse Hill site had been selected to “ensure easy access for residents across north-west Sydney”.
The site had been announced during the current term of parliament to allow construction to begin in the next term, he said.
“Planning, early design works and community consultation will ensure we deliver what the community needs and deserves,” Mr Hazzard said.
“For 16 years Labor promised to build hospitals but time after time, they proved their promises weren’t worth the paper they were written on.
“Labor is insulting the intelligence of locals when they claim that their unfunded promise is the largest spend on health services in north-west Sydney because it ignores the fact the NSW Liberals and Nationals Government have already spent over $700 million redeveloping Blacktown and Mt Druitt Hospitals and another $1 billion is being spent at each of Westmead and Nepean Hospitals, totalling $2.7 billion in the region.”
Mr Conolly said he was “proud” the new hospital would be located in the Riverstone electorate, “at a location that will be convenient for those who need to access it”.
