THE creation of Western Parkland City as ‘Australia’s next 21st Century city’ will lead to opportunities for the Hawkesbury area, according to Hawkesbury Mayor Barry Calvert.
The Western Sydney City Deal Implementation Plan, a blueprint for the area stretching from Campbelltown-Macarthur in the south west to the north-west growth area of Marsden Park, has been released.
The Western Sydney City Deal is a partnership between the Australian Government, NSW Government, and local governments of the Blue Mountains, Camden, Campbelltown, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Penrith and Wollondilly, to provide infrastructure, liveability, productivity, and sustainability opportunities in the areas.
The population of the Western Parkland City area is projected to grow from 740,000 in 2016 to 1.1 million by 2036, and to well over 1.5 million by 2056, according to the Greater Sydney Commission.
“At Hawkesbury City Council we are looking forward to the opportunities the City Deal will create for the Hawkesbury community and our local businesses,” Councillor Calvert said.
“Not just a new look and feel for the heritage town centres of Windsor, Richmond and South Windsor, but a renewal in business confidence as people re-imagine new opportunities in our centres.”
The Western Sydney City Deal Implementation Plan details the delivery of 38 City Deal commitments and implementation milestones.
Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population, Alan Tudge, said the Plan would ensure the City Deal delivers the right outcomes for Western Parkland City residents, their children and grandchildren.
“We’re working across governments, industries and communities to bring Western Sydney Parkland to life,” Mr Tudge said.
“It will mean that residents get the liveable, productive and sustainable city they deserve.”
