Upper Hawkesbury Power Boat Club will play host to the first round of the 2019 Powerboat Spectacular Challenge.
It will be held on the weekend of January 19 and 20 at Windsor Marine Stadium, Governor Phillip Park.
The challenge is a competition between the USA and Australia and will see competitors and fans from all over Australia, along with some from New Zealand and the US, come to Windsor.
The opening ceremony will be at 9.30am on Saturday morning with races to commence at 11am.
The competition will see racers across numerous classes completing a circuit up the river with four or five racers in each round.
There will be two boats from the US in attendance with two American based teams to man them.
They are: War Eagle, which will be piloted by driver Duff Dailey; and El Cid, which will be piloted by driver Ty Newton.
Both Boats will be taking on over 20 of the best Australian Blown Alcohol Displacement Boats.
Most of the boats in the Blown Alcohol Displacement class are capable of reaching speeds of 150mph (over 240kph).
Other classes that will compete on the weekend include:
- Six Litre Displacement
- Formula Future
- Superstock 105 Unlimited
- Formula 2 Tunnel Boats.
Sunday will have a USA versus Australian hot rod show, as well as rides for the kids and trade displays.
There will be some teams and boats returning to the USA versus Australia Boat Challenge three years after it was last held here in 2016.
Bite Me, who came in fourth place that year, will be having another crack at topping the major international event.
The Windsor Challenge is the first of a two round event. The second round will take place over Australia Day weekend, January 26 and 27, at Riverland Boat Club in Berri, South Australia.
Fans from all across the world of powerboat racing will descend on Windsor Marine Stadium, Governor Phillip Park this weekend January 19 and 20 for the 2019 Powerboat Spectacular Challenge: USA versus Australia.
