THE NSW Department of Education (DoE) has entered the design phase with its project to relocate Hurlstone Agricultural High School from Glenfield to Richmond.
The new agricultural, selective and boarding high school will be called Hurlstone Agricultural High School (Hawkesbury) and will be built at Western Sydney University (WSU) Hawkesbury campus.
The facility will focus on teachings in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and agriculture (STEMAg), and benefit from access to WSU agricultural and sporting facilities.
The new buildings are expected to cost $35 million and will cater for 1,500 enrolments and offer accommodation for up to 300 students.
“The school design and operations will reflect the rich heritage of Hurlstone Agricultural High School and the Hawkesbury region as significant communities in the history of Australian agriculture,” states the DoE website.
“The new location will facilitate the delivery of unique educational partnerships and learning pathways with the university, TAFE and industry, ensuring challenging and dynamic educational experiences for students and staff.”
Applications for enrolment will open late 2019, with the school expected to be operational Day 1 of Term 1, 2021.
Planning approval for the new facilities at Hawkesbury campus is currently being finalised, and early works are expected to begin in early 2019 to upgrade existing utility services, remove vegetation that will be impacted by construction, and remediate areas of the site.
The NSW Government is spending $6 billion over four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools. This is the largest investment in public school infrastructure in the history of NSW.
The funding covers a new primary school to be built at Marsden Park catering for up to 1,000 pupils.
