Christmas is one of the most celebrated and special of all Christian festivals. While communities are overtaken by Christmas trees, decorations, lights and the thought of presents, it is also important to remember the true meaning of Christmas.
The name Christmas comes from the Mass of Christ, or Jesus, and Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is a deeply religious time for many as they reflect on God placing his only son on Earth to help teach people the lessons of Christianity such as compassion and forgiveness, and to give his life for our sins. Christmas is a time for celebration with families, friends and loved ones for all that is good in the world, and is also a time for helping those who are less fortunate.
There are a variety of ways to be involved with your church during Christmas including carols, child-friendly services, midnight mass and of course Christmas Day services. It is also the perfect occasion to get in touch with a local church if you are thinking about attending on a more regular basis.
With many different services taking place across the Christmas period it is best to seek out your local church to find out exactly what is occurring over the coming weeks. Most churches now have websites and Facebook pages for any updates, or alternatively a quick phone call will get you the information you need.
