It was a weekend of mixed performances for Hawkesbury Cricket Club as their captain Peter Forrest continued his brilliant batting form.
On Saturday the Hawks first grade faced Sydney University at home in the first of a two day match.
Forrest demonstrated his class and experience putting on a one man show.
He scored 164 from 224 balls not out, with the side finishing the innings with 313.
This performance was quickly followed when young fast bowler Aidan Van Den Nieuwboer clean bowled one of his opponents in the first over.
Sydney University are at the top of the table and go into day two at 1/7.
The Hawks hope to follow up their strong batting with a good bowling innings this Saturday, October 8 at Owen Earle Oval.
Despite the strong wind on Sunday a good crowd made it down to Owen Earle Oval to watch Hawkesbury play its T20 double header.
Unfortunately the team went down in both games, out-gunned by Campbelltown-Camden and Penrith.
Nivethan Radhakrishnan was a highlight of the Campbelltown-Camden game as he bowled 2/27.
The 16-year-old can bowl finger spin with both arms, off spin with his right and orthodox with his left.
The Hawks managed 132 unable to reach the 160 total put up by their opposition.
In the second game, Usman Qadir, who was released by the Perth Scorchers to play in the T20’s, bowled 2/28.
Forrest posting 69 off 49 balls but the Hawks were unable to reach Penrith’s total of 170, on 122.
Another bright spot for Hawkesbury cricket was grade player, Matt Williams, who took his 300th wicket on Saturday against Sydney University.
The 31-year-old has been playing for Hawkesbury since 2000, having come up through Wilberforce cricket, and has played all grades from first to fourth.
Williams has been playing fourth grade this year, with fellow 300 wicket taker, Stephen Simons.
“It was nice to do it with the boys and around people I’ve played with for so long,” said Williams.
“It was quite special…and to do it under the captaincy of Dean Laing…was really good.”
“It’d be nice to make it [350 or 400], but I’m not sure,” chuckled Williams.
He took three wickets on the weekend making him only the 7th Hawkesbury player since the club’s founding in the 1980s to reach the milestone.
