LOCAL and regional artists are invited to attend a free workshop and morning tea at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery at 10:30am on Wednesday, November 28, for a discussion about new ways to develop the identity of Windsor through art.
The workshop will be about arts-based placemaking in the Windsor Town Centre, Placemaking Coordinator at Hawkesbury City Council, Charles Liggett explained.
“The benefits of using art to tap into Windsor’s unique character can extend well beyond the art world,” Mr Liggett said.
“This program aims to engage art and entrepreneurship to creatively reimagine, and potentially transform, the image of Windsor’s historic town centre.
“We are planning to connect and engage the local community on a regular and ongoing basis, so this workshop is about having input into these plans
“This could mean music events, design festivals or food events, so come along and share your ideas.”
The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Barry Calvert said many Hawkesbury community members, business owners and artists are increasingly aware of how arts-based
placemaking initiatives can benefit our region.
“I think community development and appropriate urban planning can benefit everyone if it leads to increased innovation, cultural diversity, and community engagement,” he said.
“Our Town Centres Master Plan Group, chaired by Councillor Danielle Wheeler, has found excellent examples of display art in vacant storefronts and underperforming public spaces in regional towns.
“As a result of these examples, the Town Centres Master Plan Group is keen to work with local groups to fill suitable shopfronts with various pop-up shops and art installations.
“I encourage as many local artists, as well as other creative minded and talented residents as possible, to get involved in this new opportunity.”
The initiative is being developed by Hawkesbury City Council in partnership with Art Pharmacy Consulting who have been contracted by Council for the placemaking project, with strong leadership from the Town Centres Master Plan Group.
People can just show up to the morning tea at 10:30am but there is also the option to register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reimagine-windsor-tickets-52805809598.
