A group of young authors recently had their moment of glory, reciting passages from their works before an captive audience.
Celebrating the annual Hawkesbury Learning Community Young Writers Awards, the winners presented their pieces to parents, students, teachers and principals at Hawkesbury High School.
The Hawkesbury Learning Community consists of six public schools – Ebenezer, Wilberforce, Freemans Reach, Kurrajong East, Colo Heights and Glossodia - and the high school.
The Young Writers’ Award has been a fixture of the community since 2010.
This year’s topic was: “Will it ever rain …?”
The competition is run under strict supervised conditions to allow equity among the contenders.
Handwritten drafts are submitted to the judging panel, who consider the creativity of the story as well as the spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Finalists are then invited to submit a digital copy of their story for publication.
Successful writers were presented with a medal and a booklet containing all of the finalist stories.
Winners in each category also received a book voucher.
